Beforethestartoftheseason,featuredplayerRobRigglewasletgofromtheshow.FinesseMitchellandKenanThompsonwerebothpromotedtorepertorystatuswhileJasonSudeikisremainedafeaturedplayer.
Theshowthenaddedthreenewcastmemberstotheshow.Theyincluded:LosAngeles-basedsketchcomedianBillHader,AndySamberg(theshowalsohiredhistwofriendsAkivaSchafferandJormaTacconetothewritingstaff,allmembersoftheTheLonelyIslandsketchgroup)andKristenWiigofTheGroundlings.WiigdebutedontheshowinNovember,intheepisodehostedbyJasonLee.Samberg,SchafferandTacconewouldbeanotableforceforcreatingSNLDigitalShorts.Onesuchshortwas"LazySunday";afteritairedduringtheJackBlackepisodeitbecameanInternetphenomenon.
